  • International Comparative Study on the Development of Inclusive School System and Educational Administration in the Era of Globalization
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B),   2014 04 01  - 2018 03 31 , In the era of globalization, early school leaving has occurred as the big problems both in Japan and overseas. In this research, we conducted international comparison survey on Japan, Korea, Finland, Denmark and Canada as the main target countries as to the school systems and educational administration that guarantee educational opportunities for children and young people. We found in our survey that in order to secure educational opportunities for children and young people, it was essential to support them by social welfare and youth work as well as to support their learning activities. Alternative schools & learning places were growing such as JOPO in Finland, Copenhagen Municipal Youth School in Denmark, Alternative Schools in Korea, and Evening Junior High Schools in Japan. Development of such alternative and compensatory schools & learning places and comprehensive administration systems are the international trend in the present age.
  • Further analysis and international comparison of Youth Cohort Study of Japan data.
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B),   2014 04 01  - 2018 03 31 , The project, which was based on the result of Youth Cohort Study of Japan 2007-2012, has two aims. One is to draw a clear figure of young people’s transition for public by YCSJ data. The other is to characterise Japanese youth transition by international comparison. For the first aim, we published one large volume book: Youth in Crisis (Kiki no Naka no Wakamonotachi) in November, 2017. For the second aim, we have co-worked with British, German and Swiss colleagues to compare YCSJ data with counter data sets, and presented the result at open international workshop in March, 2017.
  • Cohort Survey of school-to-work transition and career formation
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (A),   2010 04 01  - 2014 03 31 , Based on our five years'longitudinal survey,we identified young people's trajectories of school-to-work transitions. A half of our respondents seems to experience rather smooth transition from school to stable employment. However, three in ten of them have continuously experience uncertain situation such as non-regular employment or unemployed since their leaving education. There are also many differences in youth transition between metropolitan areas and other areas.
  • An Empirical Study on the strategies to creat the inclusive educational and administrative system
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C),   2011  - 2013 , Early school leaving are getting the serious problems in Japan. The purpose of this study is to explore the strategies for the inclusive educational and administrative system, through research of early school leavers, support groups, local governments and schools and analysis of processes of exclusion, administration systems and the practices of support groups and schools. We could recognize that some local governments were making comprehensive systems for the welfare administration and educational administration, etc., which showed the effects for children's development. From the research to the X High School which had accepted many early school leavers, we could find the significance of practice based on personality development. The essenntial elements of the inclusive educational and administrative system are the comprehensive administration system, and places or institutions that allows for personality development inside and outside of the boundaries of school system.
  • An empirical research on integrated administration for children service in Japan and England
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B),   2009  - 2011 , In this study, surveys of field and interviews were carried out for integrated department to oversee an administration of education and child welfare in Japan and in England where expands children and youth support policies. As a result, the integration of the children department in the level of the Board of Education Division which is municipal level directly with children and families is effective and validity.
  • Research study on the restructuring of child-raising assistance and education administration under the decentralization reform
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C),   2008  - 2010 , The aim of this study is to verify the trend of reorganization of child-raising assistance and education departments of local governments in Japan. The survey showed the progress in synthesis and cooperation among those departments : formation of the child-raising assistance departments, cooperation between local governments' leaders and the boards of education, enactment of the child ordinances and formulation of the child-raising assistance plans, formation of the youth support networks, and cooperation between employment or welfare administration and schools etc. However, there have been a big ditch between local governments' leaders and the boards of education, and important task is to coordinate and joint both in order to realize "comprehensive child administration systems".
  • Cohort Survey of school-to-work transition and career formation of urban young people
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (A),   2007  - 2009 , The research aim was to survey young people's transition process from school to work with cohort study method. Respondents were 20 years old at the first sweep and we collected their main activity, experiences and attitudes every year. The critical point for cohort study is keeping low attrition. We get more respond rate than expected, and modified our research term to 5 years instead of 4 years, which was the original plan. The research will be continued on another research term. Though, we published some of interim results, detailed results are not yet.
